Chris Hanna

Democratic Candidate for Mississippi Senate District 1Vote Nov. 4, 2025!

I’m a lifelong resident of Tate and DeSoto County, and I’m running for office to address the challenges facing Mississippi families. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Oxford and own a small farm in DeSoto County, so I understand the needs of our community because I’ve lived them. I’m committed to strengthening education by securing better funding for schools and raising teacher pay, supporting law enforcement with fair wages, protecting Medicare and Medicaid, and advocating for tax reform that eases the burden on middle-class families.Issues at a Glance

Education
The future of Mississippi depends on strong public schools. I’ll work to fully fund education, raise teacher pay, and make sure every child, no matter their ZIP code, has the tools they need to succeed.
Healthcare
Rural hospitals are closing, and families are paying the price. Expanding access to healthcare will keep our hospitals open, support working families, and strengthen our economy.
State Income Tax & Budget
We need tax policies that help working families and small businesses, not giveaways that drain money from schools and roads. I support tax relief that is fair and responsible, while keeping the state budget balanced.
Public Safety & Crime
I’ll always back the men and women in law enforcement with fair pay, training, and resources. At the same time, I support common-sense steps to reduce crime by investing in prevention and rehabilitation.
Gun Rights & Responsibility
I respect the Second Amendment and Mississippi’s strong hunting and self-defense traditions. I also believe in keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, while protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
Reproductive Healthcare
These are deeply personal decisions. I believe government should stay out of private medical choices, especially in cases involving the health of the mother, rape, or incest. Families and doctors, not politicians, should make these decisions.
Cannabis Policy
Medical cannabis is now legal, and I’ll ensure patients can access it by proposing bills to add anxiety and insomnia as covered conditions. I also support a full adult-use market with home grow, common-sense safety regulations, and pardons for non-violent offenders. Legal markets protect personal freedom and defund drug cartels.
Welfare & Retirement Security
Hardworking Mississippians deserve to know their retirement is safe and their families are supported in tough times. I’ll work to protect programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and PERS so seniors, veterans, and working families aren’t left behind.
Voting & Ballot Measures
The people of Mississippi deserve their voice back. I’ll support restoring the ballot initiative process and protecting fair access to the polls for every eligible voter.
Infrastructure & Jobs
Stronger roads, bridges, broadband, and job training will keep our economy moving and help attract businesses. I’ll fight for investments that grow opportunity right here at home.
Equality & Fairness
Every Mississippian deserves respect and a fair shot. I’ll oppose discrimination and focus on making sure our state is a place where everyone willing to work hard can thrive.
Upholding the Constitution
The Constitution is the foundation of our democracy. As a Marine I swore an oath defend it and protect our freedoms. Politicians too often forget that they are public servants, and they sign up to work for the people. No one is above the law and as your senator I promise to defend our democracy.
